There are many types of child abuse, and all of them are morally reprehensible. However, I think most of us would agree that sexual molestation is the most heinous of all the types of child abuse. The sexual molestation of children is more dreadful than other types of child abuse. It's terrifying and painful. It destroys trust. It robs the child of normal sexual experiences as an adult. The opportunity to share your first intimate moment with a person you choose for yourself is lost forever. The sexual abuse of children often damages them irreparably. Victims of sexual abuse frequently experience unusual curiosity about or evasion of all things of a sexual nature as adults. They can also suffer sleep disturbances, night terrors, depression and feelings of alienation. Sex abuse victims often feel that their bodies are unclean or spoiled. They might fear that there is something wrong with their private areas. They're sometimes inclined towards criminal behavior. Some become unusually violent. Many kids who suffer sexual abuse commit suicide later in life. Sadly, a significant proportion of sexually abused children grow up to become pedophiles themselves. Therefore, perhaps society is right to condemn child molestation more readily than other types of child abuse.
