Many grandparents speak out and step up when cases of child abuse are reported at the hands of the parents. Law enforcement officials state that this has eased the situations quite a bit and has helped lots of children back into their grandparents lives and keeps them within the family unit. Child abuse is rampant not just in the United States but all over the world and statistics show that the majority of these children do and should be in the custody of the grandparents. Often the grandparents offer loving role models for these child abuse and neglect victims. Authorities and the courts should of course evaluate each grandparent before placing them in their care though as often parents are abusive because they have been subject to child abuse as well.
