Do you have to see bruises to believe that someone is being abused? The definite answer to that question is no. Child abuse and neglect come is many forms. The inability to provide a safe and secure environment for a child is neglect. Every person in this world deserves, and has the right, to be safe, secure and happy. Types of child abuse such as mental and emotional abuse can be just as devastating as being physically abused. When you hear of child abuse stories, and you hear of the physical violence that has occurred, take the time to think of what emotional aftermath that plays on the growth and development of the child. As that child grows, there will be many challenges along the way when dealing with self esteem and the feeling of acceptance and love. Child abuse statistics are on the rise unfortunately. Public awareness is the first key to putting a stop to child abuse and neglect. Schools and churches need to offer a safe place, whether it is a counselor or teacher or just a secure adult, to go to and talk about abuse or neglect. Awareness is the start to providing the safety and security that each child deserves. |
