An impacting movie that portrays child abuse and neglect is the Lifetime movie "For the Love of a Child".

"For the Love of a Child" also was Lifetime's most watched film in the year it was released.

Child abuse and neglect occurs across all cultures and socioeconomic divides. At the beginning of the film, child abuse images aren't displayed in the middst of poverty. Their first depiction of child abuse and neglect is actually within a middle class family.

There were 3 million reports of child abuse and neglect in America during 2006 (Source: Childhelp's child abuse statistics). "For the Love of a Child" reveals a peak into the lives of fictional children who experience different types of child abuse that exist in the real world.

The movie also paints a vivid history of the longest existing charity organization geared towards preventing child abuse and neglect. Childhelp has existed since 1959 with its founders still involved in the organization to this day. It also flashes back to present day with a boy who experiences child abuse and neglect. Childhelp works with this boy through placing him in one of the "Villages" which is essentially a refuge for children who have experienced child abuse and neglect.

The children then socialize with other children who have experienced such hardship. They also receive attention from counselors and volunteers.

It is highly important to donate towards an organization like Childhelp. Because of donors and/or volunteers, children like the boy in the movie can receive shelter, food, toys, and the medical attention that they need.
