The laws in this country are just too lenient when it comes to prosecuting those who are guilty of child abuse and neglect. How is it that a child can experience much abuse and negligence but the perpetrator serves minimum time in prison, if they even go to prison? People need to heed a wake up call and really start pushing for laws and bills that would make child abuse and neglect a very large and punishable crime. Not to say that there are not some great laws that already exist, but what it the people who commit child abuse and neglect were facing a mandatory 20 year prison term? What if they would be locked up with all the other molesters, murders and rapists out there? The sad fact is that there are so many reports of child abuse and neglect these days that broader and more tactical enforcement is needed to curb these crimes and cut down on the statistics that show how often that they occur. On the other side of the coin, parents need to be better educated about what constitutes child abuse and neglect, such as leaving your child in the car with the windows up during the summer.
