types of child abuse, child abuse stories

Dave Pelzer gained worldwide fame as the author of the harrowing best-selling autobiography, A Child Called "It". In his book, Pelzer chronicled his years of abuse at the hands of a drunken, mentally ill mother before he was finally taken away from her at the age of 12. Pelzer has managed to survice the many different types of child abuse heaped on him by his mother that included starvation, beatings, being stabbed, getting immersed in icy water, even being forced to drink amonia. And although the trauma chronicled in his child abuse stories has left its psychological scars on this man, he has gone on to write seven books and raise a 22-year-old whom he claims was one of the happiest children in the history of the universe. Yet, all the types of child abuse inflicted on Pelzer have made him a workaholic who talks at a breakneck pace, and whose last marriage crumbled under the weight of Pelzer's killer 16-hour-a-day work schedule that is rarely interrupted by time off. However, Pelzer is a survivor and that is what he preaches in his many public appearances every year. "My message has always been about resilience," he states. And because of the horrific types of child abuse he suffered through, he has dedicated his life to helping others through his books, lectures, and actions in daily life. He is an inspiring man.
