You may hate hearing child abuse stories and feel personally apalled at the current child abuse statistics, but have you given any serious thought to the root causes of child abuse and neglect? It doesn't just appear out of nowhere. If you know anything about child abuse and neglect you understand that these behaviors are usually handed down over several generations. I mean a family where the children are loved and well-cared for isn't usually going to produce a son or daughter who grows up to be a child abuser. People who suffer child abuse and neglect are the ones who go on to abuse and neglect their own offspring. Why? Because that is what their adult role models did to them. Abused children are also usually unwanted children, the kids born of teenaged mothers whose fathers abandon them either at an early age or even before birth. Not having a father around will always have a negative impact on a child's sense of self-worth. And if you don't think you're worth much, how can you possibly appreciate your own offspring. In order to stop the cycle of child abuse and neglect, society needs to catch child abusers early, lock them, and also address the issue of teen pregnancy. Children having children needs to stop. We need to educate our young men and women about birth control and make it readily available to them, and to hell with what the moral conservatives want. They're wrong about denying birth control to young people as they are wrong about so many other issues.
