types of child abuse, child abuse statistics Child Abuse Statistics

We all know about the standard types of child abuse and tend to think it mostly involves small children who are unable to protect themselves. One of the little talked about types of child abuse involves troubled teens. I read this article today in the paper. Apparently the police have recently arrested two men and two women with the kidnapping of a 17 year old Alabama girl who had been abducted and forced into prostitution.

The girl told authorities she originally had run away from her home in Alabama. The suspects met up with and abducted her at a bus stop. She told investigators that she was brought to Phoenix and forced into child prostitution. In addition, one of her captors physically and sexually abused her.

According to child abuse statistics, about 75 percent of juveniles forced into prostitution suffer some kind of sexual or physical child abused.

The majority of those involved in the business of prostitution at some point use children because the profits are so great.

This child abuse and neglect case involves the states of Kansas, Alabama and Minnesota and will become a federal matter.
